ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Government of India in its Vision 2020 has focused the growing scope
of herbal drug and food market in the world, but our Nation is not well
prepared to meet this challenge. At present we have only 2% of share in
the global herbal export market and the basic cause behind this failure
is the lack of good quality of herbal drugs, which is associated with adulteration
and bad manufacturing practices. Although GOI, has framed several acts,
rules and regulations to improve the situation, but still our manufacturers
and educated entrepreneurs are not aware of these techniques and practices.
Thus we have proposed a practical training workshop on “Advance Techniques
of Molecular Biology in Drug Development” on June, 27-28, 2007 with the
aim to focus the salient features of various techniques, through lectures and
practical demonstrations.
Here we shall demonstrate various advance techniques, related to the field
of drug standardization and cover the detailed topic with scientific principles
by the lectures from the subject experts.
This is a novel effort to educate the participants through integration
of various subjects of science and technology by involving academia,
industrial houses
and social workers. For details one can visit www.sntmf.org. Last year also
we had a workshop on “Advance Techniques of Molecular Biology and Advances
in Herbal Drug Manufacturing & Standardization” from October 12-15,
which was sponsored by CSIR. Further I am indebted to Prof Yamini Bhusan Tripathi,
dept of Medicinal chemistry for developing this manual and Prof. V.P. Singh,
Head, Department of Medicinal Chemistry for his advice and support. Grateful
to all the resource persons and the students for sparing their valuable time
for delivering the talk and arranging the practical sessions. I acknowledge
the secretarial assistance of Mr. Ratnesh Kumar in organizing this workshop
in the last. I feel obliged to Surya Pharmaceuticals, Varanasi, and ICMR, New
