Complementary and Alternative system of medicine (CAM)
has an edge over the conventional system for the management of chronic inflammatory
disease.
Food supplements and changed life style are the two accepted approaches
to target this situation and interestingly both are complementary to each
other.
These diseases included arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, arteriosclerosis
hypertension cancer, age related neurological disorders etc. On the
molecular level, most of them are free radical mediated. Although, several
new claims
have been made as research outcome, but they are not being transferred
to the industrial houses because of the industrial houses because of non
compatible
research date and gap in the information pool between institution and
industry. This book “Chronic inflammatory Diseases & Nutraceuticals” describes
the shortcomings arising during the technology transfer between a research
institution and pharma industry and their possible solution. It also describes
the new targets for developing new synthetic molecules, polyherbal formulations
and food supplements. This publication is unique, because of its interdisciplinary
approach of targeting the relevant questions related to new drug development
for various chronic diseases. It describes the basic concepts of Ayurveda,
molecular biology of inflammation, disease development and mechanism of drug
action. This is very helpful for a researcher, who is working with herbal
medicine, described in the ayurvedic text, especially for making a correct
hypothesis for drug testing both in vitro& in vivo. |
